Embark on an empowering journey with The Hockey Farm's innovative School Leavers Gap Year Programme – a transformative initiative designed to address the pressing issue of youth unemployment in our region. Tailored for individuals who have recently completed their schooling, this comprehensive year-long program goes beyond traditional educational paths, offering a unique blend of skills development and practical experience. Centered around the dynamic world of Hockey, our participants will acquire a versatile skill set applicable to various team sports. From First Aid and Coaching to Umpiring and Technical Officer duties, our immersive curriculum covers it all. Beyond the field, participants will gain expertise in team and sports club management, administration, child safeguarding in sports, sports event coordination, retail operations, and a myriad of other sports-related skills. Throughout the program, attendees will engage in a series of courses, each culminating in official and recognized certifications. Join us in shaping a future where every school leaver emerges not just academically proficient but also equipped with the practical skills to thrive in the competitive landscape of sports and beyond.
What is Hockey-Forge?
Hockey-Forge is the Hockey Farm's mentorship programme where participants will spend a year being exposed to all the various aspects involved in a career sport, and in particular, hockey. Participants will attend courses and work under the guidance of experienced individuals.
Who is it for?
The programme is ideal for school leavers who are passionate about sport and hockey. It is suited to both those who already know that they want to follow a career in sport, as well as those who are not sure and want to find out if it will suit them.
When does it take place?
Each year from the beginning of March to mid December.
